Kupu Whakapapa - A and O Pronouns
Remember the two different types of pronouns:
Mine yours his/hers
A: t/āku tāu t/āna
(we have control over - partner, children, food)
O: t/ōku t/ōu t/ōna
(same generation or older, transport, house, support body)
Drop the t for two or more objects.
Ko wai tāu tama? (Who is your husband?)
Ko David tāku tama. (David is my husband.)
Kāore āku tama. (I have no husbands.)
Ko wai tōu matua? (Who is your father?)
Ko Colin tōku matua. (Colin is my father.)
Ko wai tōna whaea kēkē? (Who is their auntie?)
Ko Ruth tōna whaea kēkē. (Ruth is their auntie.)
Ko wai tōu mātaamua? (Who is your eldest?)
Ko Paul tōku mātaamua. (Paul is my eldest.)

Changing Pronouns
Look carefully at the chart in your book. The K words - koe, kōrua and koutou change when the answer is given:
How are you? I am good. = Kei te pēhea koe? Kei te pai ahau.
How are you two? We are both good. = Kei te pēhea kōrua? Kei te pai māua.
How are you fellas? We are all good. = Ket te pēhea koutou? Kei te pai mātou.
How are we all? We are all tired. = Kei te pēhea tātou? Kei te ngenge tātou.
How are you? I am good. = Kei te pēhea koe? Kei te pai ahau.
How are you two? We are both good. = Kei te pēhea kōrua? Kei te pai māua.
How are you fellas? We are all good. = Ket te pēhea koutou? Kei te pai mātou.
All the other pronouns in the last two sections remain the same from the question to the answer.
How is she? She is great. = Kei te pēhea ia? Kei te pai ia.
How are we all? We are all tired. = Kei te pēhea tātou? Kei te ngenge tātou.

Answer the A O Questions and TENSE
The question has a different pronoun in the answer. How is YOUR dog? MY dog is good.
Kei te pēhea koutou? (How are you fellas?)
Kei te harikoa mātou. (We are happy.)
Tense:
E ________ ana = Started, now and on-going
E pēhea ana āku negru? (How are my cats going?)
E pai ana āu negru. (Your cats are doing good.)
E pēhea ana tōu whaea? (How is your mother?)
E hiakai ana tōku whaea. (My mother is always hungry!)
Tense:
Kei te = Now
Kei te pēhea tou whaea? (How is your mother at this moment?)
Kei te ngenge ia. (She is tired)
Kei te pēhea koutou? (How are you fellas?)
Kei te harikoa mātou. (We are happy.)
Tense:
